As many people can remember from their time in school, people understand and retain concepts better in different ways. Some people were able to read and hear lectures to understand concepts while others preferred hands-on work or practice to better retain information. The 2024 MEP Innovation Conference has found success by combining different approaches to the education in order to appeal to all individuals in attendance.
The conference uses inspiring keynotes from industry leaders, collaborative roundtable discussions, in-person facility tours, and immersive workshops that pairs theory with practice. Past attendees from the 2023 MEP Innovation Conference found the most inspiring takeaways during the closing “anti-keynote” workshop that called out how trades instinctively work against each other, even when it is not in their best interests.
This year’s conference will feature two extended workshop opportunities to move beyond the theoretical and dive into the practical. They offer participants a chance to apply what they’ve learned in real-time scenarios.
From Idea to Implementation – This workshop is meant to take a realistic look at the process and personnel involved in innovation. It begins by exploring the prototypical “innovator” – understanding what is expected of their abilities, skillset, vision, and collaboration. Recognizing that no innovator thrives in isolation, the workshop emphasizes the importance of building a diverse team. Such a team not only generates more ideas but also brings varied perspectives and skills essential for success.
From Process to Productivity – This workshop challenges concepts of productivity and process within the building community. This workshop will utilize simulations and games to demonstrate not only workflow, but also how to measure and improve productivity. It will also help attendees to learn to think outside the box and challenge established concepts by measuring and trying new methods.
