Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find my local MCAA affiliate or NCPWB chapter?

Most companies join MCAA through their local MCAA affiliate, which serves as the primary point of connection for national membership, dues processing, and local engagement.

You can find your local affiliate or chapter by:

  • Visiting the MCAA Local Affiliate Directory on mcaa.org, or
  • Contacting the MCAA national office for assistance

If your company does not have a local affiliate or chapter in your geographic area, you may still be eligible to apply directly through the national office.

Iโ€™m located outside the United States. How do my dues work?

Contractors located outside the United States join MCAA as International Members and pay a flat $2,400 annual membership dues, which is not prorated. International Member dues are not based on UA labor hours and are paid directly to the national MCAA office.

Iโ€™m a Canadian contractor. Do different WebLEM rates apply?

Yes. Canadian contractors who are members of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Canada (MCAC) may be eligible for MCAC-sponsored WebLEM subscription rates. Eligibility and enrollment are coordinated through MCA Canada.

When does membership begin and end?

MCAA/MSCA/PCA and NCPWB memberships operate on a fixed fiscal year.

  • Membership term: April 1 โ€“ March 31
  • Membership becomes active once dues are paid in full
  • Memberships renew annually at the start of each fiscal year

New members may join at any time during the year, but annual dues are not prorated unless explicitly stated for a specific membership category.

Are dues recalculated each year?

Yes. Dues are reviewed and assessed annually based on the applicable membership structure.

For contractor members, dues are recalculated each year based on UA labor hours worked, subject to minimums and caps. For NCPWB members, dues are set annually and billed for the full fiscal year.

Any changes to dues structures are approved by MCAA leadership and communicated in advance of renewal.

Can I become an NCPWB member without an MCAA/MSCA/PCA membership?

Yes. Companies may join the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau (NCPWB) without being members of MCAA/MSCA/PCA.

However, NCPWB maintains a separate dues structure, and non-MCAA members pay a higher annual rate than active MCAA members.

Is WebLEM included with membership?

Yes, for most members.

  • MCAA/MSCA/PCA contractor members receive complimentary access to WebLEM as a membership benefit
  • Active NCPWB members who are also MCAA members receive WebLEM access at no additional cost

Companies that are not MCAA members may purchase WebLEM as a standalone subscription.

How Often is the WebLEM Updated?

Data in the WebLEM is reviewed and updated periodically to reflect the latest products and joining methods. MCAA members will be provided with a password and username to access the WebLEM free of charge, and thereโ€™s no need to sign a subscription agreement.

WebLEM data is reviewed and updated periodically to reflect:

  • Current products
  • Installation methods
  • Joining techniques

MCAA/MSCA/PCA members receive a username and password to access WebLEM at no charge, and no subscription agreement is required for member access.

How is a Labor Unit Expressed?

A WebLEM labor unit is expressed in terms of labor hours to install a unit of material (such as a foot of pipe), an individual item (such as a fitting or valve), or perform a specific task (such as welding a joint).

A WebLEM labor unit is expressed as labor hours required to perform a task, such as:

  • Installing a unit of material (for example, a foot of pipe)
  • Installing an individual item (such as a fitting or valve)
  • Performing a specific task (such as welding a joint)

This standardized approach allows for consistent, reliable estimating across projects.

How are dues billed and invoiced?

Billing depends on the membership type:

  • Contractor membership dues are billed and collected through your local MCAA affiliate
  • NCPWB dues are billed directly by the NCPWB local chapter office unless one isnโ€™t available in your area, in this case the billing will be through the MCAA national office.

Invoices are typically issued in advance of the renewal date, and membership is not considered active until payment is received.

What happens if my company has multiple branch offices?

For contractor members, dues are assessed per branch office, with each office subject to:

  • A minimum labor-hour threshold
  • An annual maximum cap

Each branch office is treated individually for dues purposes, ensuring assessments align with actual operations while maintaining fairness across the membership.
